SRE/Operations Engineer (m/w/d)

The end customer is looking for someone to help them set up an automated patch and upgrade process.

The end customer's team is responsible for operating, patching, and upgrading a suite of services that use tools like Kafka, Elasticsearch, Cassandra, Kubernetes, Mesos/Marathon, MySQL
etc. Considering the size of the underlying infrastructure (> 1k VMs) and the always increasing risk related to usage of outdated components, they are looking to automate the patch and upgrade process of the virtual system running on top of the private OpenStack and VMWare infrastructure.

The freelancer's tasks will be:
• Analysis of the current patch status
• Immediate remediation for possible critical security risk
• Review of the current patch and upgrade process
• Design of a highly automated patch and upgrade process
• Implementation of the new patch and upgrade process
• Implementation of metrics collection system, dashboards, etc.

The freelancer should have the following skills:
• Deep understanding of virtual infrastructure based on VMWare and OpenStack
• Experience in operating different Linux Distributions (e.g., Debian, Ubuntu)
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL data stores (e.g., MySQL, Cassandra, Elasticsearch)
• Experience with Kafka
• Experience provisioning and configuration management solutions (e.g., Puppet, Salt, Terraform)
• Knowledge about monitoring systems, such as Sensu, and time series metrics (e.g. Graphite, Prometheus)
• Schedulers (K8s, Docker, Nomad)
• Classical System Engineering / System Admin experience is a plus
